This program is the first of a series of weekend seminars that provide an open and friendly environment to discover knowing how to live with a clear mind, a gentle heart and a sense of humor through the practice of meditation. The weekends include an introduction to sitting meditation practice, talks by a director, individual meetings with a meditation instructor and group discussion.
Shambhala Training Level I: The Art of Being Human is the first weekend of Way of Shambhala I, which includes both the weekend Shambhala Training Levels I-V and the five companion weekly classes, Meditation in Everyday Life through Wisdom in Everyday Life. You are encouraged to do both together, but it is possible to do just the weekends in order, or just the classes in order. However, to proceed beyond the Way of Shambhala I series to the Way of Shambhala II: Sacred Path program, all weekends and classes in Way of Shambhala I are required.
Acharya Richard John: An early student of Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche, Richard was appointed an acharya (senior teacher) by Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche. He completed the first three-year group retreat at Gampo Abbey in Nova Scotia, and for many years has taught Shambhala Buddhist programs internationally. Acharya John is known for his experiential and practical approach, which encourages participants to connect with the teachings personally and apply them in daily life.
