This is a poem by member Eileen Knaft that she wrote on the occasion of the birthday of her friend.  We hope that you will enjoy.  ………….

Chambers

Age is not a number…

It is an echo whispering through

The chambers of a Nautilus.

Each chamber: a world of its own

Yet part of the next,

A text

A living archive of secrets and jests

All constructs from our journeys

Through:

Childhood observations

Romance and passion’s explorations

Career and family expectations…

Through:

Rooms of laughter where friendships are woven

And copses we go to when we are broken

(…unfolding farewells to those we stop holding)

To coves on shorelines that seductively whisper

“Keep your heart open, not bitter

Through fog and moonlight and the limits of time

Listen to the movement of tides

Let your silhouette dance

In the glimmering trance

Of silver-sliced waves at your side”

We are the Nautilus

The Echo

The Weaver and Dancer

…And the Voice that answers the Whisper…

Age is not a number!

It is a place

The outer chamber of the Nautilus halls

The foyer with an open wall

A passage to a cerulean sky

          the pull of the ocean

            where shifting sands lie…

Called by the Zephyr – Caressed by the breeze

or carelessly tossed by the storm

…and then freed

Age is not a number!

It is where we live

Where memory leaves traces

And the moment now faces

The reef

Where the tides change direction

That shapes our reflection

…On ephemeral forms of protection…

Age is not a number!

It is synergy and energy

Spiraling outward

In expanding chambers

Half shelter

Part portal

To the world

Through which Life

…And the rhythm of the sea

Flow in… and out…

…Like a heartbeat…

Age is not a number

It is Life’s echo whispering through

The chambers of a Nautilus.
