Getting Involved

Everyone is welcome at the Atlanta Shambhala Center, and we encourage you to participate at a level that is appropriate for you. It is not necessary to become Buddhist. Members of other faith traditions are encouraged to be fully involved at our center. Meditation is a universal human activity.

We offer many Recurring Programs and events without charge.  In addition, we offer a Series of Classes of profound teachings and practices.  This series begins with the Way of Shambhala classes and although the wisdom that is taught is grounded in the Buddhist view, one can benefit from most of the series without becoming a Buddhist if that is your preference.

We are all here on earth to see what we can offer, as opposed to what we can take. A life based upon what we can take leads to promoting a society where the only barometer of success is materialism. Mindfulness leads to an attitude of wanting to serve the world, rather than expecting to be served. Only through the development of mindfulness—which leads to virtues like kindness and generosity—will we become truly peaceful.

Four Ways of Connecting to the Center

#1- Practice & Study

We encourage everyone to mindfulness-awareness practice, and works to integrate that practice into daily life in order to create a foundation for healthy social relationships and an enlightened society. This connection may also be made through contemplative practices based on mindfulness-awareness.

#2- Volunteer Service

A large majority of Shambhala activities are conducted by volunteers, and there are many ways to help. Members donate time to the local center based on their interests and personal availability. Fill out our Volunteer Form if you haven’t do so already.

#3- Practice of Community/ Society

Shambhala is a community that practices the teachings on basic goodness, and explores and develops a culture within our communities that embodies that profound principle. Membership offers active engagement in contemplating and building a different kind of society altogether. Upcoming Community events include Full Moon Shambhala Sadhanas November 14 and December 14, 2016

#4- Financial Support

Shambhala is sustained through dues and donations.  We invite everyone to help sustain our center by making a financial contribution, and to consider becoming a member.  You can read more about becoming a member on our Membership Page.

For those of you who are already members, we ask that you consider making an additional monthly contribution of $4 (one latte) per month or more.  That amount would increase our financial resources enough to support the maintenance of our buildings.

Thank You
