So many of us are grieving and in deep mourning for the suffering that we perceive in the world as well as in our own situations. We do not live in a society that is comfortable with our open grieving, which includes our tears and the very messy ways that grieving takes us. Community based grieving is healing and transformative. When we combine community grieving with community prayer, then we are able to better transform our grief into wisdom and joy. In this retreat, we will practice the great path of Bhumisparsha practice, or the practices of touching the earth in the same way the Buddha did to confirm his enlightenment. In this retreat we will touch the earth together through meditation, chanting, movement practice, discussion, and prayer, and silence. In touching the earth, we will open to the transformative power of grieving to move forward as individuals and as a community.
